Applications are invited for EPSRC-funded Post-Doctoral Researcher Officer, working with Dr. Jun Zang in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at University of Bath, in order to participate in an EPSRC funded research project, SMARTY: Supergen Marine Technology Challenge.
The SMARTY project is a close collaboration between three universities, the University of Bath, the University of Oxford, and UCL working together to combine and apply their expertise to different aspects of marine renewable energy. The team are joined by industrial advisory group comprising classification societies and key industrialists (BP, MCT, Garrad Hassan,Lloyds Register, EDF, E-ON) and Supergen Hub. This project explores the science and engineering required to ensure that marine renewable energy devices survive extreme conditions. The project will also seek to identify the upper limit of device operations in less severe conditions.
The post holder will be expected to conduct cutting edge numerical simulation that will significantly update knowledge and understanding in extreme loading for marine renewable energy devices, to assist with all the project aims, to contribute to publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and to present at national and international meetings.
You must have a good engineering or science degree or equivalent and a PhD or be close to submission of PhD, or equivalent and demonstrable experience, in a relevant discipline.
You must have experience of research relevant to marine hydrodynamics, wave-structure interaction, coastal or ocean engineering, specialist knowledge of numerical modelling using viscous flow model, such as OpenFOAM for fixed and floating structures and a record of research publications.
This is a full-time position on a fixed-term basis for ~10 months.
