As a result of continued growth the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath is looking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic individual with interest in Control, Autonomous Systems, and Systems Engineering to strengthen our research in the Machine Systems group.
The appointee will have demonstrated considerable strength in research areas which complement current activities. We are particularly seeking applicants with experience in a) control and systems engineering, b) advanced design of autonomous systems, or c) electric drives and machines and their applications to energy efficient propulsion and actuation.
Relevant subject areas include autonomous vehicles and systems; next generation ‘smart machines’ for medical and manufacturing systems; hybrid and electric vehicle powertrains; electro-mechanical actuation; system integration; and the advanced control of high performance systems. Candidates must have a strong theoretical grounding in dynamics and control with experience in control applications. Enthusiasm for industrial collaboration and the potential to secure research funding are essential.
Requirements for the Post:
The appointee will teach MEng students on our programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Integrated Mechanical Electrical Engineering. This will include undergraduate laboratories, project activities and cross-cutting and multidisciplinary group design and individual research projects.
The applicants must be able to demonstrate the capability to publish high quality research papers and will be expected to interface with one of our existing research activities with potential linkage across the Faculty of Engineering and Design and the University.
The post holder should hold a doctoral degree (PhD, DPhil, EngD) and have a strong research and publication record and evidence of grant capture.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the administration, leadership and management of the Department.
