All Invited to University-level Courses Open Day

This Saturday, City College Plymouth is throwing open its doors and inviting all those who are interested in starting a university-level course to their College Open Day, from 10.00am to 1.00pm at its Kings Road campus.

Potential students can find out about the range of courses on offer at the College, including its highly successful foundation degrees, higher national certificates and professional qualifications. There will be the opportunity to meet the College staff and students, find out about the support services the College provides for students, and tour the facilities.

Foundation Degrees (FDs) are two year degree-level courses (full-time), the equivalent to studying for the first two years of an honours degree at university, and can all be followed by a final honours degree year at university. They are designed in collaboration with employers and offer students the opportunity to combine academic study with the skills and attributes needed in the workplace.

Damon Lau, who completed a Foundation Degree in Accounting and Finance at the College in 2013, received a distinction grade and went on to finish his third year at Plymouth University. Damon said: “Not only did I gain a qualification; I also learnt many skills which were useful for university and for future employment.

“Returning to education as a mature student wasn’t as daunting as I thought it would be. The College was a friendly place, everything was explained and it didn't take long to settle in. The lecturers were outstanding. Not only did they help us with assignments and the course, they also gave us advice when issues with our lives outside the College affected our studies.”

Simon Friend, Vice Principal of Delivery at City College Plymouth, said: “Opportunities for university-level study at the College are excellent; students have the opportunity to study in a friendly environment, with a 100% focus on learning, whilst enjoying outstanding facilities and excellent teaching.

“In partnership with employers, we have carefully designed our courses around the needs of business, to make them practical, relevant and industry-led and ensure that our students are very employable. Our degree-level courses ensure you have the appropriate training and skills needed for success in industry and business; many embedding professional qualifications. Our students also get the chance to glean information and valuable skills from industry experts in workshops with employers through the College’s employability centre, theworkspace.”
