Improving Rain Fall Predictions
Through the CityRainNet Knowledge Transfer Partnership, NCAS has been working with water companies, including Scottish Water and Yorkshire Water to improve the forecasting of rainfall over Scotland and the east Yorkshire coastal area.
Working together to analyse data from rainfall radar and rain gauges has improved the prediction of rainfall over the areas in question. The collaboration has worked to reduce the time it takes to process the data from rain radar network meaning that the forecasts can be delivered to the water companies more quickly. The collaboration has also lead to improvements of the accuracy of the rain radar data.
